Baguette Diamond Ring

A classic, geometric cut is the centerpiece of the baquette diamond ring.

For someone whose tastes run on the classic, elegant end of the spectrum, a baguette diamond ring may be the perfect reflection of her timeless beauty and understated style. An engagement ring with baguette expresses a romantic, antique look that is at the pinnacle of elegance and possesses a quiet glow without need for a lot of flash and fire.

The baguette cut is generally used for smaller rectangular diamonds and features rows of step-like facets. It is often used in pairs to flank a larger center stone, such as a princess or round brilliant cut stone, and lends an elegant, romantic "retro" look that never goes out of style.

As a solitaire, the baguette-cut stone works nicely in a more elaborately-styled band where other cuts might not. The simple, geometric cut has a quiet sheen to it and lacks the fire of the brilliant cut, and so it does not clash with a lacy, intricate pattern on the band. These same properties make it an excellent complement for use as shoulder stones with a different cut.

Baguettes can come in different shapes as well. In a tapered baguette, the two long sides taper inward to form a subtle hourglass shape that is often flanked by round or oval stones (or vice versa). They are also cut in oblong, asymmetrical shapes for more striking modern designs.

The baguette diamond ring, being more understated than brilliant cuts, also lends itself to use in sets. Small baguettes can be grouped in a channel setting to complement an engagement ring with a large center stone, or can be the centering element in an interlocking wedding set. They can also be a serene, central element in a pave set.

The baguette diamond ring is an old-fashioned cut, and evokes the romance of a time gone by without being outdated. It can also be paired with classic gemstones, such as topaz or peridot, in a similar cut to emphasize the "sepia effect" with color. A delicate pattern on the band, such as a relief flower pattern or filigree, further heightens the nostalgia.

By the same token, the clean, simple lines of a baguette cut stone make it a striking and powerful centerpiece for a bold, contemporary ring as well. The straight lines and square corners of the stone nicely contrast curvy, organic lines in the band and setting. As you can see, from a design perspective, the baguette is a truly versatile cut.

No matter what you choose for the style of your ring, the baguette diamond ring is an excellent choice for its pure elegance and classic style, and a fine way to honor the grace and loveliness of the wearer.
