Man's Wedding Band

How to choose a man's wedding band for a lifetime of comfort and style.

Not many men wore wedding rings in the United States until after the Second World War. While many men still do not like to wear rings, the times have changed. Today probably just as many men wear wedding rings as those who do not. Those who do, the man's wedding band choice that they make should be made with comfort in mind.

When considering a wedding band for a man, consider what he does for a living. Wearing a ring when lifting something heavy can be uncomfortable and even downright painful. One way to solve this problem is to choose a comfort fit style, which is rounded on the inside as well as on top. This style also allows for a heavy weight ring without having it be bulky. For most men this means choosing a man's wedding ring that is approximately 6mm to 8mm wide, depending on the groom's finger size.

Durability is also a factor to consider. Since it is impossible to have a ring that will not be scuffed or scratched, the logical solution is to find a design that downplays these scars. Choices include a variety of hammered textures for a man's wedding band that would fare well with daily wear. You can also find engraved patterns that do not show the scratches.

Your man's wedding ring should be made of a strong alloy. Platinum and 18ct yellow gold are good choices, as is titanium. Usually associated with the aerospace and medical industries, titanium offers many benefits. Aircraft grade titanium rings will be incredibly light, strong and abrasion resistant. Titanium's weight to strength ratio surpasses any other metals and it is hypoallergenic.

It is a good idea to test a metal next to your skin before purchasing a ring. If the groom is like many men, his wedding ring will be the first ring he has ever worn. He may not know if he is allergic to certain metals. Have the groom wear something made of the same metal that his wedding band will be made of prior to purchasing his wedding ring. Otherwise, you might have to return his band after your wedding day.

Wedding bands for men now come in many styles. Consider the thickness of the band, how it feels and looks on his hand. Decide whether to engrave the ring. Decide whether you want your bands to match or contain gemstones. Whether the groom will wear a man's wedding band is one of the first decisions a couple will make together.
