Head Table Decoration Ideas

The head table at a wedding commands attention. It is understood that the guests at the head table are especially important to the bride and groom. Whether your head table is reserved for your wedding party and their spouses, your parents, or a handful of siblings, you will want to add extra decorating efforts in order to make this table stand apart from the rest.

At some weddings, the head table will look the same as the other tables except for a larger centerpiece or more ornate flowers. It is not uncommon to adorn head tables with the altar flowers, the pew decorations, and the bridal-party bouquets. This is a beautiful way to carry the ceremony into the reception.

If the bride and groom will be seated at the head table, their chairs should stand out from the others. Perhaps large wicker chairs adorned with white flowers and bows could hold the bride and groom, or maybe an elegant love seat. Large fluted champagne glasses catch the light and speak of festivity.

Wallpaper borders are expressive and elegant additions to the head table. Many patterns and colors are available, in traditional or contemporary styles. You can place the border right down the center of the table like a runner, or hang it around the edge. This will provide a lovely, soft, flowing effect. Borders can be attached to table edges with Velcro, double-stick tape, or even staples. They are an easy and effective head-table wedding decoration.

String or rope lighting placed on table edges or on the floor will outline the area and provide an eye-catching and festive focus. Flashing helium balloons, with their strobe-like properties, can be tied to each chair back. The table will literally pulse with energy throughout the entire reception!

Personalizing decorations at the head table is a thoughtful and meaningful way to enrich the seating area. Who will sit at the head table? Have you known these people since childhood? Small childhood photos of the guests, placed on the table as part of the individual settings, is a touching and wonderful way to decorate. Your guests will delight in these old pictures and enjoy sharing them throughout the reception. If you don't have childhood photographs, consider small framed photos of special times you have shared with these guests in the past. Or have a floral bouquet made with small photos of your guests mounted on pretty sticks that can be interspersed with the flowers.

Another head-table decorating option is to place a personalized memento in front of each table setting. Fabric paint is easy to work with and can be used to write short personal messages on vases, candles, picture frames, etc. ItÂ’s a way of reaching out that lets people know you want to do something special for them.

If you have chosen a wedding theme, it is always fun to carry that motif to the head table in a big way. If you are having a winter wedding, for example, why not adorn the head table with a miniature sled complete with sparkly faux snow and a little snowman? You could drape beautiful winter scarves over the chairs of your special guests. There are so many ways to expand on your general decorating themes in order to make that head table turn the heads of one and all!
