Wedding Cupcakes

Use These Dainty Pastries to Get Creative With Your Cake

The tower is complete, filled with colorful bits of cake and frosting, and the guests are quickly and easily serving themselves, partaking of these wonderful wedding day diversions. No mess, minimal cake cutting, and those who don't eat theirs now can easily save their treat for later. Wedding cupcakes have added that little something extra to your special day.

Why Wedding Cupcakes?
If you haven't heard by now, wedding cupcakes are one of the hottest trends in reception planning! These elegant matrimonial baked goods are typically arranged on circular or rectangular tiered platforms made of everything from clear plastic to poured chocolate. The whimsical confections are quite popular with those looking for a way to personalize a beautiful wedding cake without breaking the bank, and provide lots of options for those with a creative flair.

For example, you can easily offer your guests a variety of delectable flavors of both cake and frosting decorations, and everyone is guaranteed an equal portion, which is not always the case with traditional wedding cakes. Wedding cupcakes are also a snap to tie in with your wedding theme, using small cake toppers to match your motif -- butterflies for a butterfly theme, orchids for your garden theme, etc. Your decorations can be as casual or elaborate as you like, with everything from fondant flowers to shaved chocolate truffles to enhance your presentation and enchant your guests.

Wedding Cupcakes are Easy!
Wedding cupcakes are also much easier from the standpoint of setup and transportation -- there's no danger of the cake toppling, for example, and the tiered display can often be smoothly and quickly arranged at the reception hall. Likewise, if you've got your heart set on making your own cake (but feel like you might not have the baker's chops to pull it off), cupcakes offer a project that leaves you with all the free time you'll need to make preparations for an upcoming matrimony.

Worried about frosting so many cupcakes? Rather than doing each one by hand, simply arrange all of the individual portions close together on a baking sheet, and frost them all at one shot! To add individuality, drizzle different colors of frosting across the top of your sheet of cupcakes, or think about using chocolate chips, powdered chocolate, or sugar pearls.

***NOTE: When making your own cupcakes, it's best to overestimate the number you'll need. In contrast to a traditional wedding cake, you can't slice more thinly as the cake dwindles, so make sure you've got a few extra on hand!

But What About Cake Cutting?
Though wedding cupcakes offer great advantages over a typical wedding cake, it's true that the climactic and memorable moment of cutting the cake can be lost in the shuffle. Some couples choose to feed each other bites of cupcakes as a way to include the most important part of the cake cutting (the eating!).

Others, however, have found a novel solution to the cake cutting dilemma. In addition to their wedding cupcakes, some couples also arrange for a small traditional wedding cake, specifically for the purpose of following the cake cutting tradition. This cake generally sits on the top tier of the display, and is shared amongst the members of the bridal party while the guests help themselves to the cupcakes.

When looking for the perfect cake, wedding cupcakes may offer exactly the solution you need -- a beautiful, cost-effective, time-saving option with little sacrifice of taste, quality, or presentation. It's no wonder that these dainty pastries have become a hit with today's brides and grooms.
