Calla Lily Wedding Program

Calla lilies add an elegant touch to your wedding programs.

The calla lily is one of the most classic and enduring wedding design icons. Symbolic of magnificent beauty, it has the body and curve of a regal woman and is usually a large and dominating fixture in a wedding bouquet.

The most common calla lily is white, carrying it into traditional wedding symbolism as well. But it also comes in yellow and pink, and in miniature, all of which are popular in weddings. The calla lily is one of the flowers most disposable to a full-fledged wedding design theme, since its conical shape is easily imitated in champagne flutes, cake servers, and even dresses.

While it is not necessary to have a comprehensive theme to your wedding design, the wedding program is one prime place where an important image is called for. The program will be handed to guests before they ever enter the chapel, and in many cases will leave the ceremony with them. During the event, it will be their constant reference point; and while they check up on the order of events, they will also be receiving a reminder of your design concept. The wedding program is your place to make the basic statement you want to make about the spirit and character of your wedding.

If you want to incorporate the calla lily image into your program, you can be sure to find any number of designs in stores and online to choose from. Before you become overwhelmed or they all start to look alike, think about what it is about the calla lily that you want to include in your wedding. Is it in the simple elegance of its form, sculpted of one piece like a well made dress? Is it the dramatic air resulting from its size, long stem, and trumpet-like shape? It's tropical heritage? Or is it the rarity and preciousness associated with all lilies? Realizing the character you want to bring out in the flower will help you work it into your design.

For instance, an emphasis on the simple elegance of the calla lily would seem to call for a solitary flower, and one in a subtler color like white or pink. A single stem on a white background, even an embossment, might be the only accent needed to grace the cover of your program. If the program has binding, a complimentary white satin ribbon would complete the effect. On the other hand, a pair of flowers representing the couple to be married would not be beyond minimalism either. The pair could be tied with a ribbon complimentary to the binding. Such a simple design could be easily drawn or painted by an artistic friend.

If it's the drama of the flower you're after, however, you may prefer a grand bouquet of calla lilies to emphasize this. A combination of colors and sizes would be stunning. A bunch of large gold lilies would seem to declare a brass fanfare. Or if you want to stick with white but still go for a regal look, put your bouquet in the hands of a bride image to emphasize the scale. Whether you imagine a cluster of baby pinks to emphasize sweetness or an extravagant tropical display of gold lilies with vibrant reds and greens, the means are there for you to find, order, or create your ideal calla lily image.

If you have a home computer with a good graphics program, you can compose your own calla lily wedding program from downloads and screen captures. Check online to see what artists have done. Search clip art sites like Weddingclipart.com for downloads with customized color options. Even advertisements for floral shops may have photographs you could use as the basis for your own design. Experiment with size, saturation, and font combinations to get the look you want. Creating your design yourself will give you much more control over your calla lily wedding program design, at a much lower cost than special ordering.

Whether you find and image of calla lilies at the first place you look, or make a creative project of it, a calla lily wedding program will be a lovely way to announce your wedding ceremony and share the beauty of the wedding calla lily with friends and family.
