Wedding Invitation Maps

Including maps with your wedding invitations is a smart idea if your ceremony and/or reception will be held in a location that is unfamiliar to many of your guests. Do not assume that all of your guests have the tech-savvy needed to locate directions on their own.

How to Add a Map to Your Wedding Invitation

There are many sites offering detailed maps that you can use in your wedding invitations. The most popular include:

Once you've found a suitable map, all you need to do is add a screenshot of the map to your wedding stationery. The correct method for taking a screenshot depends on the type of device you are using.

  • On a Windows PC, use the PrtScn key to capture the screen and copy it to a clipboard.
  • On a Mac, hold down Command and Shift while you press 3.
  • On an Android smartphone or tablet, hold Volume Down and Power for one to two seconds. Your screen will flash white.
  • On an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, hold down Sleep/Wake and then immediately press and release Home. Your screen will flash white.

You can crop and resize your screenshot in your favorite image editing software before adding it to a blank card that matches the rest of your wedding stationery.

With the map, you may also want to include driving directions that make reference to noticeable landmarks guests can use to make sure they're on the right path. If you'll be adding your own wedding signs along the way, tell guests to look for your signs as they're nearing your ceremony or reception location. Include information about appropriate parking areas, if applicable.

Your maps should be printed on a cardstock that matches the rest of your wedding stationery. The goal should be to create a cohesive look for all of the elements of your wedding invitation.

Including Maps on Your Wedding Program

If your reception is in a different location than your ceremony, you could opt to include maps to your ceremony in your wedding invitations and maps to your reception in your wedding programs. However, if you choose to go this route, you should keep in mind that some people who are invited to your wedding may receive an invitation and choose to only attend the reception. It would be a good idea to include maps and directions to both locations on your wedding website to avoid confusion.

When including maps on your wedding program, it's easiest to add a screenshot with driving directions to the back of the program.
