Order in Advance
Personalized ribbon can be ordered through local suppliers or online, and you can choose from many colors, textures and patterns. It is important to order your wedding day ribbon well in advance of your special day. To make sure you have your ribbon at least two weeks before your wedding, order it and all of your personalized wedding day supplies at least three to four months in advance of your ceremony.
Ribbon is generally sold by the yard, but personalized wedding ribbon is special ordered and is purchased by the piece or sold by the roll. Pieces are sold in various lengths, from 11'' to 24'' long, and cost more than uncut ribbon by the roll.
A roll is 100 yards (3,600 inches) of either 3/8'' or 5/8'' width ribbon, with a one inch space between each repeating phrase. A 3/8'' width ribbon can be printed with 54 characters which includes spaces and punctuation. A 5/8'' width ribbon can be personalized with 42 total characters. Your personalized message must adhere to the character limitations or it will be printed incorrectly.
Before you order your ribbon itÂ’s important to know how much ribbon you will actually need to use when constructing your favors. Small take-out order sized boxes will take 24'' of 3/8'' ribbon to go around them and tie a bow. Use this as a guide to ordering. To avoid running out of ribbon, order five to ten percent more ribbon than you think you will use. It would be nearly impossible to get more personalized ribbon at the last minute.
Budget for Bows
The cost of personalized ribbon is reasonable considering the number of ways that it can be used and the beauty it adds to your DIY favors. A roll of 3/8" ribbon will cost approximately $105 a roll plus shipping and handling, with a 5/8" roll being slightly more expensive at approximately $150 per roll.
Pre-cut ribbons are more expensive. A 11" piece of personalized ribbon will cost about fifty cents, with a 24" length costing a dollar. While it saves you a bit of time, the additional cost may not be worth it for budget-conscious brides.
Smaller width ribbon is perfect for wrapping mini ribbon wedding favor boxes, and the larger width is ideal for medium sized favors and small floral arrangements. The type of ribbon you choose will also be a factor in the price. Check both online and off for your best deals.
Ribbons Run in Themes
Several wedding themes simply beg for lots of ribbon and have a definite color scheme. If you are using the Italian Wedding Theme or having an Irish Theme Wedding, you may want to consider ordering your ribbon very early to ensure the best selection and availability. Red, green and white ribbon are very popular colors for many occasions, but the closer the calendar gets to the holidays, the more difficult it may be to get just what you want. If you order six months in advance you may find a drop in price on off-season ribbons.
