Children are out of school, and families are more likely to be able to travel to a wedding in the summer than any other season. When using summer wedding themes, take advantage of these opportunities for a happy summer wedding.
There are many different summer wedding themes you could incorporate into a wedding. Two of the best summer wedding themes for a happy summer wedding are a camping wedding and a picnic wedding.
Camping Wedding
Are you two outdoor enthusiasts? Summer wedding themes were made for you! A camping wedding would allow you to invite family and friends to a state park that has amenities such as showers and group gathering areas, and ask guests to bring a tent or camper and make a whole weekend out of it. Book a row of campsites so that your whole party will be able to camp together. There, you will have a happy summer wedding weekend filled with games, swimming, campfires and barbecues.
On top of all the usual camping fun, you will dedicate one afternoon and evening to your wedding. Preferably you will choose a campground that has a picturesque area for a ceremony; perhaps an amphitheater or open grassy area. Invitations could be made in the shape of a tent. Specify on the invitations whether casual attire will be appropriate for the ceremony. The bride may choose to wear a simple, white sundress, or a casual, white linen pants and skirt suit. The groom may wear a casual dress shirt and khaki pants or shorts.
Surround the ceremony area with mosquito netting tied into decorative bows and tiki torches made with citronella candles to keep bugs away. After the ceremony, gather at a meeting area for a barbecue complete with kabobs, burgers, steaks, chicken, salmon, fresh fruit salad, potato salads, other deli salads, wine and beer and wedding cake.
For wedding favors, provide each guest with a gift bag filled with sample sized camping necessities: bug spray, a decorative wash cloth, a water bottle, can opener, deck of cards, disposable camera, sunscreen, etc. After the meal, gather around a campfire to tell stories about the bride and groom and roast marshmallows.
Picnic Wedding
A picnic is a great way to gather for a happy summer wedding, and many of the details will be the same as a camping wedding. Invitations may be made in the shape of a picnic basket. Pick a park that has such amenities as restrooms, volleyball courts, a beach, horseshoe courts, etc. Reservations for many city and state parks need to be made at least a year in advance.
Tell guests that they will be attending a casual, outdoor wedding. You may provide each guest with a miniature picnic basket, filled with goodies such as a bottle/can opener, chocolates, a Frisbee, bubbles, etc. Decorate the ceremony with trellises wrapped in vines of ivy and fresh flowers. Make sure you have a tent to set up in case of bad weather.
After the ceremony, gather under a covered area to enjoy cheese and crackers, fruit, finger sandwiches, summer salads, fresh fruit and wedding cake. You may even incorporate a barbecue into your picnic wedding. After the ceremony, have group games planned such as volleyball and horseshoes.
