Texas Wedding Decorations

Ideal decorations for your Texas wedding.

The location of your wedding can provide inspiration for your theme, and when your location is Texas, what else but "Western" comes to mind? With Western wedding decorations, you can bring a warm, down-home feel to every aspect of your ceremony's atmosphere.

The Ceremony Site

The decor should match the natural colors of the Texas landscape. Try blues, greens, lavenders and yellows. Place antique pottery jugs, horseshoes and washboards around ceremony and reception area. Hang a small cowboy hat or boot on the end of each pew (for a church wedding) or row of chairs. Wrap some tulle around it for an elegant touch. Say your "I do's" under a lattice trellis woven with pieces of wheat, tumbleweed and wildflowers. Or, say your vows beneath a garden arbor with rope and flowers added to compliment the Western theme. Accessorize the arbor with real or artificial hay bales and feed bags. Have someone ring an old-fashioned dinner bell when the bride and groom kiss for the first time as husband and wife.

Use an antique wagon or horse-drawn carriage to hold your gifts. Like the arbor, accent the wagon with hay bales and feed bags. A cedar fence strung with garlands is also a great accessory for the Western wedding enthusiast. To have the ultimate Western wedding, you could get married on horseback! A horse is the greatest decoration for a Western wedding.

Tables and Centerpieces

Use picnic tables covered with checkered or gingham tablecloths instead of traditional catering, reception hall tables. For table decorations, use boots (glass or real) instead of vases or cowboy hat-shaped glass bowls for the centerpieces. Also try mini "feed" favor bags. Sprinkle cow-shaped confetti on the tables. Make placecards out of heavy Victorian cardstock, and burn the edges for a "branded" look. Have guests sit on hay bales instead of chairs (this is more suitable for an outdoor or more casual wedding). Fill ceramic cowboy boot planters with wildflowers and greenery.

The Cake

For the cake, use cowboy wedding cake toppers. This one is well-designed and not at all cheesy.

Where to Find What You Need

For assistance with decorations, try a party rental store. There is Austin Party Central or Premiere Party Rental in the Austin area. In the Dallas and Fort Worth areas, try Ducky-Bob's Event Specialists in Carrollton. Other options include A-1 Wedding & Party Rentals in Denison, and United Party Rental in Carrollton.

Many Web sites and online stores cater to Western-themed weddings. Try Hazel's Rawhide Western Weddings or Sat'n Spurs.
