Pennsylvania Wedding Day Attire for Men

When choosing attire for the male members of your wedding, first consider the time of year and time of day you will be married, and the style of your bride's gown. These will help you determine what clothing will best fit with your overall wedding theme, and what will make her happiest. Whether it's a traditional black and white tuxedo or a designer color and cut to complement her dress, PA has plenty of options for grooms (and groomsmen) of all shapes and sizes.

Always Consult Her

This is your bride's special day. Don't make a tuxedo decision without her input unless she gives you the go ahead. She may have thoughts on shops or tailors with a good reputation, what style would look best on you, and the colors that will coordinate best with her gown and those of her bridesmaids. She may even want to choose your tux for you. If she hasn't chosen her gown yet, don't pick your tux yet!

To Rent or To Buy?

If you have a hard-to-fit body shape or think you will wear your tux multiple times again in the future, buying is a good idea. Buying your tux ensures a sharp fit that makes you look your best, but remember that you'll also have to buy accessories that would normally come with a rental, such as a tie, shoes, cummerbund, vest or waistcoat. Since this is a purchase which will last for years, consider your options carefully and pick a comfortable, year-round tux that won't quickly fall out of style. There are many fine tailors throughout Pennsylvania's major cities and rural heartland who can offer advice and tailor your tuxedo to match your shape.

If you're an informal guy who won't often need such dressy attire (or are on a tight budget), you can rent a tuxedo for your wedding. All of the top name designers are available as rentals from a good shop. The rental shop will be able to adjust inseam and arm length, but little else, so the fit may not be as great as a tailored tux. However, you will get all the extra amenities mentioned above, which can take a lot of worry off your mind.

Plan Ahead for the Perfect Fit

Don't wait until the day before, or (heaven help you) the day of your wedding to get your tuxedo fitted. Once your bride has her dress and those of her bridesmaids picked out, shop in advance and schedule your fitting a few weeks before the day you marry. This will give you plenty of time to work out any kinks in your wedding day look.

Package Tuxedo Deals

If you and your groomsmen are sharing a wedding day look, consider shopping together and keeping an eye out for package deals. These collective buys can save you hundreds of dollars which you can sock away for the Pocono honeymoon or put towards gifts for your best man and attendants. Shopping together will also help you to coordinate your look, making a nice presentation during your ceremony.

Choose Your Shoes

The traditional formal wedding shoe is black patent leather with a soft, thin sole perfect for dancing. However, depending upon your wedding theme, other types of footwear may be appropriate. A country western theme, for example, might allow you to wear your favorite pair of black cowboy boots, provided they're in excellent condition. If you're renting your tux, your shop may offer a shoe upgrade. This is generally worthwhile, as the higher end shoes will be more comfortable for your ceremony and reception.

Go with What "Suits" You

Many of today's grooms are opting for a nicely tailored suit and silk tie for a modern wedding day look, rather than the traditional black and white tuxedo. Choosing a suit over a tux may make a purchase more usable in the future, and you may feel more comfortable on your wedding day. A suit also allows you to experiment a bit more with colors and fabrics, such as matching a dark jacket with a complementary silk shirt and light-colored slacks.

Rent or buy, suit or tux, remember that your bride's input is the most important factor for your wedding day attire. Whether you're marrying in Pennsylvania's autumn glory or at a black tie winter Philadelphia wedding, her thoughts and advice will guide you to a fashionable choice that will have you looking your best.
