Plan Ahead to Avoid New Jersey Wedding Day Complaints
Because of New Jersey's popularity and relatively small geographic footprint, wedding professionals in the state often book up early. Begin looking for a wedding planner, caterer, ceremony site and reception center 12-18 months in advance for the greatest options and highest quality. Beginning early will give you plenty of time to work through any issues which may arise during your planning. Keep in mind that May, June, September and October are the most popular months for a NJ wedding, and that Saturdays and Sundays often fill up first.NJ Wedding Ideas
Your wedding day can be anything you want it to be, but for simple, elegant inspiration you need look no further than the Jersey Shore. A New Jersey beach wedding is a beautiful option which has amenities to fit every budget and style. From lavish to "on-a-shoestring" (or sandal, as the case might be) weddings, anything is possible. Think about including conch shells (the state seashell) or wave patterns in your wedding invitation and program designs, sand dollars with hand-painted names and dates for wedding favors, or even a playful take on the ubiquitous Garden State Parkway or NJ Turnpike signs for your wedding logo. Other ideas include using violets (New Jersey's state flower) or the color violet in your wedding theme. Adding subtle lavender accents to your wedding dress, bridesmaids' gowns, floral arrangements or stationery materials can create a delightful, soft motif.New Jersey Marriage License Requirements
Marriage licensing in New Jersey is based on place of residence. If the bride and groom are residents of New Jersey, the marriage license must be obtained from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the municipality in which the bride resides. If she is a non-resident and he is a resident, the license must be obtained from the Registrar in the NJ municipality where the groom lives. (Those serving in the U.S. military are residents of the posts at which they are stationed.) As long as either the bride or the groom is a resident, their marriage license is good for use anywhere in New Jersey.
If the couple is from out of state, the license must be obtained from the Registrar of the municipality where the ceremony is to be performed, and may only be used in that municipality. A New Jersey marriage license may never be used outside the state, and a license issued in another state cannot be used in New Jersey.
Be sure to contact the registrar well in advance of the wedding to find out on what days and during what hours the registrar will be in the office. For your appointment, you will need:
- Your photo IDs
- Social Security cards or numbers
- Birth certificates
- A witness
- The current $28.00 NJ wedding application fee
