Florida Wedding Music

Choose music native to Florida for a little spice at your wedding reception.

When it comes to music, Florida has its very own flavor. You can make your Florida wedding and reception special with the sounds that came out of, or are popular in, this exciting state. Here are a few fabulous choices for your Florida wedding music.

Traditional Latin Music/Latin Pop

The Latino population in some areas of Florida has given the state that can't-sit-down, fiery flavor of Latin music. Traditional Latin tunes run the gamut from crooning and ultra-romantic to hip-swinging and hot, hot, hot. A live band is best for this type of music, though an experienced Florida disc jockey should have access to all the Latin tunes you've loved and a few you've never heard before.

Latin Pop is an evolution of traditional Latin music. Made popular in Miami, Latin pop includes traditional singers as well as crossover artists such as Gloria Estefan. Latin pop is an excellent choice for your Florida wedding music as it's a style everyone will want to dance to. If you're looking for a Florida music style that will get even wallflowers stepping at your wedding reception, choose Latin pop.

Country and Western/Southern

The Sunshine State has a large Country and Western following. C&W/Southern-Style music can be slow and romantic, sentimental, humorous or get-on-your-feet wild. If you're planning a line dance at your reception (a sure way to get all of your guests on the floor), an authentic C&W band can give your wedding reception added authenticity.

Formal Wedding Music

If your celebration has a more formal style, look for a traditional strings, piano and/or woodwinds group. These artists often deliver their services at a surprisingly affordable rate, and the music can be an exquisite touch to your special day.

Also consider a soloist for your Florida wedding music. Be sure to listen to him or her at another engagement if possible. How the audience responds to your soloist will give you key information on whether or not you wish to enlist his or her services for your own wedding reception.

Contemporary Bands and Disc Jockeys

Of course, Florida has plenty of contemporary groups and DJs, too. Each will have his or her own style, so be certain you're on the same page as far as the play list for your wedding and/or reception. DJs are ideal for the broad range of music they typically have on hand, making requests from the audience easy. On the other hand, a live band adds an element of interaction between your wedding guests and the band, which can make the reception even more fun.

If you're having trouble making up your mind, call various Florida wedding musicians and get a taste of each before deciding. You can find lists of wedding musicians in the phone book or online; try Wedding Music USA to get you on your way toward a rocking reception!
