Florida Wedding Decorations

Showcase your Sunshine State wedding with eye-popping decorations.

Sandy beaches, lazy afternoons, a vibrant and colorful night life: there's no doubt about it, Florida is one of the hottest wedding destination spots you can pick. If you've decided on a Florida wedding, match your decoration scheme with the personality and flair of the Sunshine State. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

The Colors of Florida

Florida is all about water-related activities. As such, beachy, "summery-type" colors are popular in Florida year-round. Try incorporating some teal blue into your wedding decoration color scheme. This light and appealing color is reminiscent of the ocean surrounding most of the state and, coupled with tangerine or flamingo pink, makes an immediately recognized Florida color combination.

Pastels in general can work well for your Florida wedding decorations, but add a highlight color for the full effect (try touches of pewter, gold, black or pure white). These contrasts echo Florida residents' penchant for the fun, fanciful and dramatic. Other appropriate colors for your Florida wedding include sunshine/lemon yellow, sand, sunset red or bright blue.

Florida Favorites

Choose Florida icons to add a splash of personality to your wedding decorations. Stylized flamingo candle holders for your reception centerpieces and a tiny beach umbrella beside each plate denote an elegant atmosphere with a twist of fun. Other symbols of Florida for your decorations include sun emblems, sunglasses, alligators, flip-flops, sand and sand castles, seashells (especially conch), palm trees and sand pipers (water birds).

Decorating With Florals

What about your flowers? You can use any flowers you wish (from tea roses to tiger lilies), but consider adding some Florida natives to your list. Look for tropical florals and other plants for your wedding reception tables. These are easy to find; look up lists of native-variety nurseries in one of Florida's three main regions (northern, southern and central) for ideas.

Many flowers that are either native to or grow well in Florida (including imported florals) have a unique or exotic look. With some well-placed plant decorations, your wedding will have a true Florida feel. Larger plants, bushes or even small trees are one way to make an impression. How about twin mini-palms on either side of the wedding altar? (See if you can rent your trees; if purchasing, make sure you have somewhere to put them afterward and that you have purchased a variety that won't get too big.) Also try yucca or aloe in deep, cheerily-decorated pots.

Your Florida wedding decoration ideas are limited only to your imagination. Try different color and style combinations so you can find the one that's perfect for your own very special Florida wedding.
