Stencil scrapbooking for your wedding album can mean a number of different things, and the possible effects created with wedding stencils are just as plentiful.

To begin with, there are a number of different kinds of scrapbooking stencils. Most are made of plastic; they have that in common, although some come in a book, and are made of cardstock. There are font stencils, shape stencils, border stencils, tile stencils, background stencils and frame stencils. The basic idea is that a stencil scrapbooking provides a way to trace an image or font onto your page, creating an alternative to stickers or other embellishments.

Stencil scrapbooking is wonderful for people who struggle with drawing. With a stencil, it's not known to anyone besides you that the image or font created wasn't created by hand. For this reason, you could say that stenciling is an 'organic' type of embellishment, meaning the image you create will always be unique, unlike a sticker, for example.

A favorite way to use stencils is for page titles. There are font books available with enough font stencils to have a different look for every page of every one of your scrapbooks. Just place the stencil over your page and create your title with your favorite scrapbooking pens. You may want to trace the lettering in pencil first, and later come back with pen or marker. You could even use embossing ink, and sprinkle the lettering with embossing powder for a raised title.

Stenciling is also great for page borders. Repeat a single leaf, for instance, in different colors around a page. First use a pencil to trace around the stencil, and then fill the image in with watercolors, markers, acrylic paints or colored pencils. Try overlapping your stenciled images.

Another stenciling idea involves bleach. This technique only works with very basic stencils with pronounced shapes, such as hearts, stars or other shapes without elaborate lines and curves. You'll need a dark sheet of paper (construction paper works well), a stencil, a small paintbrush and some household bleach. Pour a small amount of bleach into a disposable, shallow container. Place the stencil over your paper and simply "paint" on the bleach. Keep in mind that it will bleed a bit, which is part of the desired effect. Experiment a little before committing to the result. This is a great technique for page borders.

Looking for more stencil scrapbooking ideas? Try combining wedding stencils with stamping. Take the above, bleach technique to another level by stamping images on top of your bleached images.

Or, create your own die cuts by cutting out your stenciled image with precision scissors or an exacto knife.

Open up your mind to new possibilities and you'll find there are more ways to enhance your wedding album with stencil scrapbooking than you ever imagined.
