Borders can be used either around the entire page, or around each individual photo, or both. There are a number of ways to create scrapbook borders for your scrapbooking pages.
Here are a few scrapbook border ideas:
- Stickers can be used to create easy borders, but try incorporating another medium with your stickers for a more original look. For instance, use a ruler to create two straight lines around your entire page. With two scrapbooking pens of different widths and different colors, create a square border around your page making one line thinner and one line wider. Now, scatter your stickers on top of this border. You can substitute rubber stamps for stickers and achieve a similar effect. Try alternating the same stamp with different colored ink.
- Speaking of rubber stamps, they also make a great border when used alone. Pick one that is a favorite, medium-sized stamp and stamp a vertical line down the page, about 1/3 of the way in from the left side. This is a popular look, rather than using a border around the entire page. After you've created your vertical line, color each stamp with different colored-pencils. Then, create square-line borders around the photos with the same colored-pencils.
- Stencils are a wonderful tool for making borders. Use wavy-lined stencils to line your pages with pens. Or, use shaped stencils (stars, moons, daisies, animals, etc.) and an exacto knife to create your own die cuts. Use lettered stencils to create names on top of the die cuts using one letter per piece. This is a border that would work well down one side only, or across the top and bottom.
- Cut out vellum in squares, and "string" the pieces together with a small ribbon glued to the back, uniting the pieces into a border. Then, either stamp on top of the vellum or each piece with rhinestones or die-cuts. Try tearing the vellum on one side (the same side on each piece) for another unique look.
- Decorative hole punches are one of the greatest tools for scrapbooking borders. Punch a decorative hole in pieces of square or circular cardstock, alternating colors but using the hole punch. Use the circles and squares as page borders, and then use the hole punches themselves as photo borders on the same page.
- Using the ribbon idea, with acid-free adhesive, glue buttons or rhinestones onto wide ribbon and use this as a page border (again, perhaps just down one side, 1/3 of the way in from the edge of the page.) Then, use the same buttons or rhinestones for photo borders.
- Journal with your borders: You can accomplish two things at once by journaling around your page as a decorative item. Consider using hole punches, stickers or hand-drawn embellishments between each word, or each sentence.
