The state of New York contains two of the world's foremost honeymoon destinations, in Niagra Falls and New York City, with many other wonderful romantic getaway spots tucked in and about its many lakes and mountains. From the Catskills to the Adirondacks, from the Finger Lakes to Central Park, the state and city of New York offer amazing natural and cultural opportunities for newlyweds.

Honeymoons in New York City
One of the world's largest and most diverse cities, New York is a remarkable place to visit at any time, and is particularly suited to a metropolitan honeymoon. Restaurants, bars, shopping, and nightlife are in abundant supply, and you'll find nearly every culture on earth represented in some form on the city's streets. The Big Apple boasts hotels to meet any budget, including many with world class accommodations, like the Waldorf Astoria, the Plaza, and the Ritz Carlton. If you and your companion are art lovers, the city is home to a number of incredibly diverse art museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. For music and theater lovers, Carnegie Hall and Broadway provide outstanding entertainment in the form of concerts, plays, and musicals.

And, of course, the city's classic attractions are wonderful spots for romance, as well - the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Empire State Building being the most prominent. A trip to Times Square, which some consider to be "the heart of Western civilization," will open your eyes to gigantic neon billboards, mazes of shops and restaurants, and incredible throngs of people, and is a "can't miss" for any true New York experience.

If you and your honeybun are looking for a softer side to New York City, you might find it in Central Park, an 843 acre refuge in the midst of the bustle of the concrete jungle. With groomed paths, beautifully crafted sculpture, secluded coves, lakes, and spectacular views of the city skyline, it's a spot for quiet afternoon strolls, hand in hand with your loved one.

While you're there, be sure to check out gondola rides on the park's large lakes, or the polar bears at the Central Park Zoo. If you're visiting in the wintertime, ice skating and hot chocolate are distinct possibilities. Lastly, consider a romantic carriage ride through the park, your arms circled lovingly around your new husband or bride.

New York State
Beyond New York City, the state of New York is home to numerous romantic locales, with hundreds of bed and breakfasts dotting the landscape of mountains and lakes. The Finger Lakes region is home to beautiful scenery and extensive wineries, and is marked by a certain reverence - local Native American cultures hold that the lakes were created when God pressed his hand into the earth, and their beauty is suggestive of such divine genesis.

The Catskill and Adirondack Mountains are home to breathtaking cliffs, shimmering waterfalls, and dense forests, all of which lend themselves to great hiking and mountain biking in and amongst the region's lovely flora and fauna. In the summer, you'll see kaleidoscopic wildflowers dotting the meadows and hillsides. In fall, the region's foliage comes alive with intense blazes of color as the seasons turn.

No matter which portion of the state you decide to visit, your honeymoon in New York is sure to be a magical experience. With so many opportunities for sight-seeing, entertainment, and romance, a New York honeymoon may be just the place for which newlyweds have been searching.
