Poconos Honeymoon

The Pocono Mountains provides a romantic, nature-rich setting for your honeymoon vacation.

intertwined hearts
In Northeastern Pennsylvania's hill country, there are cozy inns and spa resorts that cater to newlyweds. The Pocono Mountains, part of the Appalachians, are a nature-lover's destination delight, filled with year-round outdoor activities. A Poconos honeymoon is for the couple who savors the three 'R's': Recreation, Relaxation and Romance. Covering over 2,000 square miles of wilderness, the Poconos are filled with hiking trails rich in white pine, chestnut oak and hemlock. Inhabited by Iroquois Indians up until the early 1800's, remnants of their lives can still be found by Pocono wilderness adventurers. Most of the current day explorers come from areas like the bustling cities of Boston, Philadelphia and New York City, but nearly all who come here are seeking a honeymoon experience that will take them back to nature. One of the largest nature trails in the Poconos is the Thunder Swamp Trail System. Ideal for photographers, birdwatchers and naturalists, these trails make up over 45 miles of maintained trails. Camping is permitted along the trails and portions of the trail allow horses, ATV's, snowmobiles and mountain bikes to be used. There are also state parks in the area that are home to many rare animals and plants. Additionally, magnificent waterfalls and lakes are a part of the wonders of the Poconos. Camping, hiking, canoeing, rafting, swimming, horseback riding, biking, golf, fishing, bird watching, and skiing can all be enjoyed here. Recreation can be found during any season of the year, and this area of Pennsylvania always welcomes honeymooners. Logging to acquire tannic acid from the bark of chestnut oaks nearly cleared the forests of the Poconos in the early 1900's, but thankfully, a tourism boom started in the 1930's and the wilderness was saved. Currently the Poconos have 75% of all of the resorts built in Pennsylvania. Tourism and land use management have saved the wilderness and the forests are returning with vigor. The resorts in the Poconos cater to couples on their honeymoon. Generations of people have returned year after year to celebrate their anniversaries after a honeymoon stay in this relaxing setting. The Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania can help you with your honeymoon vacation plans and can offer local knowledge of the best places to stay and eat while you are in the area. You will find no shortage of options for accommodations. Everything from the usual brand names in motels to elegant resorts can be found in the Poconos. If you have the time, consider researching short or long-term cabin, condo or house rentals for your honeymoon. Several property rental groups handle these rentals, as well as individual owners in the area. Check online for contact information and details. As if the nature and slower pace of life was not relaxing enough, there are several spas in the area that encourage honeymooning visitors. If you go to these places, ask about any special offers they may extend only to couples on their honeymoon. Most are full-service spas offering facials, massages, pedicures and hair salon services, and all leave your body and spirit feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. After the fun of wilderness recreation and the relaxation of a day at the spa, a Poconos honeymoon experience would not be complete without enjoying a romantic meal together.
