If you have ever imagined what it would be like to have daylight last until midnight, or to look up and see the phosphorescence of the Northern Lights blazing in colors too stunning to absorb, then an Alaska honeymoon is your ticket to paradise.

The five regions of Alaska: the Inside Passage, Southcentral, the Southwest, the Interior, and the Far North, each possess unique characteristics and possibilities. There is so much available to explore within the state that it can be overwhelming to know where to begin. Rest assured that wherever you choose to spend your honeymoon, you will be immersed in a rare and special part of the United States.

With 44,000 miles of coastline and full of breathtaking surprises, Alaska offers a honeymoon filled with awe-inspiring adventure. The 49th state to join the Union is rich with the culture of its Aleut Indians and the native Eskimos. Traveling through the state will allow you to see their native villages, shops and museums that all reflect their talents and culture.

Adventurous honeymooners might want to consider camping, rafting or visiting the humpback whales. Mount McKinley, the highest spot in America is also in Alaska. Activities for honeymooners to Alaska include:
  • Wildlife viewing: grizzly bears, antelope, big horn sheep, bald eagles and moose.
  • Guided glacier hikes
  • Canoeing
  • Kayaking
  • Cruising: by motorboat or sailboat.
  • Fishing: streams, rivers or sea.
  • Dog-mushing
  • Flight-seeing: flying in a helicopter or plane to view large areas.

On the other-hand, if a romantic resort is more your speed, choose a lakeside retreat with a hot tub and a view of the Aurora Borealis. Luxurious options await you in the heart of this beautiful state and a visit to the Alaska Zoo or the Sealife Center will allow you to immerse yourself in the wildlife and remain close to a comfortable haven.

Activities never cease in Alaska. There are mining towns and wilderness to discover. Even in winter, mistakenly believed to be too dark for adventure, there is six to thirteen hours of daylight a day. That is plenty of time to ski or snowboard, skate, play hockey, ice fish or participate in one of the many winter festivals. There are horse-drawn sleigh rides and dog-mushing adventures. Additionally, the winter wildlife is a remarkable sight.

Alaskan shops are filled with unique items crafted by the people living in the villages. With carved jade and ivory, jewelry made of gold nuggets and hand-woven baskets, it is easy to appreciate the history and art of this state. You will find local foods, oil candles, mukluks and small, totem poles. You will be sure to leave with souvenirs to cherish.

Cultural excursions offer totem carving ceremonies, native dances, and traditional music rich with the tones of the Alaskan people. You will be welcome to attend seasonal festivals and celebrations. Museums will transport you through exhibits of sea life, aviation, and Alaskan art.

Local cuisine tempts you with cold-water treasures. Wild salmon, king crab, and halibut are just a few of the delicacies to enjoy on your honeymoon. With the best fresh seafood and expert preparation, you will feast on many delectable treats.

A honeymoon in Alaska offers rare experiences and views to behold. Adventures seem as endless as the coastline that gently defines this state rich with culture, history and potential.
