Belize Honeymoon

Plan your Belize honeymoon vacation and prepare to discover a tropical beach paradise.

tropical beach with heart
South of Mexico and to the northeast of Guatemala lies a Lilliputian country with warm turquoise waters and hot, lazy days. Belize, a two-hour plane ride from Miami or Houston, is a balmy paradise.

The Belize honeymoon offers beach resorts, warm water, private inns, jungles and archeological ruins. It is a land rich with natural beauty. Its busiest tourist season is from November through May, during the dry season. Hurricane Season begins in July and ends in November, and where it may be tempting to take advantage of the lower travel costs, it is a riskier time to visit.

United States citizens will need a passport and return ticket when traveling to Belize. Make sure you know exactly which papers you will need so that you can be fully prepared at the airport and customs. English is the official language spoken there, and U.S. dollars are accepted.

Tourists often rent bicycles or motorbikes to get around. One can rent a car, but there is a 25 year-old age requirement with a valid license in your possession. Resorts offer car services for their guests, and there are shuttles for specific excursions.

The Cayes and Belize Reefs provide a utopia for water sports. There is an abundance of swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, tubing, fishing, windsurfing and sailing opportunities available. Guests canoe down the Macal, the Mopan and the Belize Rivers. Tubing through underground caves astounds travelers with views of ancient artifacts and crystal formations.

A Belize Honeymoon can take you on action-packed adventures through dense jungles inhabited by exotic wildlife. You may see jaguars, pumas, ocelots, armadillos, tapirs, crocodiles, toucans or macaws. Wildlife is abundant and breathtaking and a good camera will help you record each stunning image.

With tropical lowlands, swampy plains, and Mayan mountains, there is diversity and adventure at each turn. You can choose to sit on the beach with your toes in the warm water, or hit the mountains for a day of discovery. Hiking in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve or the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary will saturate your senses with new sites and breathtaking discoveries. Birdwatchers will enjoy rare and beautiful wildlife as it flies overhead.

Do not forget to pack your sunscreen! Tropical sun will burn your skin quickly if you are not prepared. Use a high SPF sunscreen and apply it often. Belize is hot and humid all the time.

You need to drink lots of water in order to stay hydrated. Water is either treated or obtained from wells and therefore safe to drink. Bottled water, however, is always the safest alternative if you are uncertain about the origins of any tap water. Swimming in water is not the same as drinking it, and you can dehydrate while floating in the beautiful water beneath a steady sun.

Belize offers an abundance of activity amidst natural, tropical beauty. It is a mystical location for a honeymoon celebration.
