Tropical Honeymoon Ideas

What to consider when planning your tropical honeymoon.

The blue-green color of the water seems surreal. You can walk further and further out through gently lapping ripples and still clearly see your toes. The sun is hot, yet a gentle trade wind brushes your neck. A Pina Colada is the perfect thirst quencher while you take a break beneath an umbrella made of straw. This is just the beginning to your perfect tropical honeymoon vacation.

A tropical honeymoon has always been a popular and exotic choice for newlyweds. Offering sunshine, warm water and breathtaking views, they are unmatched in their beauty and promise. Whether you want total seclusion, or a week filled with water sports, entertainment and casinos, tropical honeymoon ideas are not hard to consider.

If you have decided on a tropical island honeymoon the first logical step is to choose where you want to go. You might want to consider choosing an island somewhere close to you, as you will spend less time getting there and more time vacationing. Many tropical islands have boat excursions and charter flights available for visiting nearby islands. This is a wonderful way to sightsee and broaden your honeymoon experience.

Book your excursions early. To enjoy specialty events at your destination like swimming with the dolphins, it is important to secure your reservation quickly as these fill up months in advance. Investigate your options as soon as possible so that you'll have plenty of time to discover and book those once in a lifetime opportunities.

Consider an all-inclusive vacation package. Meals and drinks can be very costly for vacationers on tropical islands. It's not too much fun to have to keep tabs on every drink or extra you are purchasing. The all-inclusive packages allow you to relax and just enjoy the extras when you want them.

In advance of your arrival, let your hotel know that this is your honeymoon. Many hotels, especially in the tropical areas, will give you perks and complimentary gifts to congratulate you.

Don't forget to pack your essentials. In addition to the obvious, there are a few items that you really need to have available to you at your tropical honeymoon destination.

Tropical Honeymoon Essentials
  • Sunscreen: The sun is much more powerful the closer you get to the Equator; wear sunscreen at all times to be safe.
  • Sunglasses: To block harmful UV light.
  • Snorkeling gear: You will not want to miss the underwater show!
  • Waterproof camera: Purchase an inexpensive, disposable waterproof camera to capture wonderful memories of your water adventures.
  • Spray bottle: A misting bottle filled with water to keep you cool and comfortable through the hot days.
  • Hat: With a wide brim or visor to protect your face from the sun.
  • Shoes: comfortable for walking to town and exploring.
  • Lip balm with sunscreen.
  • Airline tickets and travel documents.

Pack your tickets and travel documents in your carry-on bag for easy access. Different islands have different rules for personal identification requirements, so make sure you know exactly which papers you will need. Passports are always good, but some islands will accept original birth certificates or certified copies instead. Bring your marriage certificate as well.

The safest place for your valuables is at home. If you have jewelry that you must bring with you, secure them in the hotel safe. Traveler's checks are always safer than carrying cash.

Tropical honeymoons can take you from private, secluded white sand beaches to party spots where you'll mingle with other couples from all over the world. With a little or a lot to do, the breathtaking beauty will surround you as you begin the first days of your married life together.
