Green Wedding Receptions

Party it up the eco-friendly way.

Your wedding reception is the place and space where so many of your wedding day events will be remembered. Guests will enjoy a delectable vegetarian menu before getting down on the dance floor. And you -- well, the two of you will toast to your new life together with your choice of the finest organic Champagnes.

It might seem tough to plan a green wedding day reception, but as you might notice from the two examples just mentioned -- it's really not that hard at all, and it can be quite fun. Here’s how you can make sure your wedding day reception is oh-so-fun and eco-fabulous.

Choosing an Earth-Friendly Space

There are an endless amount of reception venues available to you, but only a few will tap into your green big day needs. Consider a space that employs only energy efficient appliances, looking for the Green Seal of approval to ensure they use environmentally responsible and energy efficient products and services.

A venue that leans on caterers who will use local resources for your menu is also a bonus. And choosing a space that gives back -- like an organic garden or park -- will also make your wedding reception more green both literally and figuratively speaking. These places not only serve the public, but will also put the fee for your reception to good use.

Decoration with a Green Flair

All of the traditional reception decoration options can easily be replaced with ones that are more earth-friendly. Conventional candles can be traded in for soy candles, leaving your reception air free from harmful chemicals. Soy candles are also known to burn longer, and what better way to set the romantic mood then with a bit of candlelight?

Swap flowers that will wilt and wither for small potted plants, and eliminate waste by switching paper place cards for a handwritten directory (does a chalkboard fit your theme?) that will help guests find their seats.

You'll find the more you investigate the more easily so many of these green changes are made possible.

Party 'Till the Break of Earth's Dawn

Going green for your wedding day does not have to mean breaking the bank. You'll find, in fact, that many of the simple swaps will actually save you money. Green options, like switching invitations for a wedding web site that includes virtual RSVPs or choosing a digital file of your wedding photos, will help keep more money in the bank so that you can better enjoy that eco-friendly honeymoon.

Regardless of the earth-friendly changes you choose to make, you'll find that breaking your moves out on the dance floor comes much easier when you know your event is keeping the Earth happy, too.
