Why Get Married in the Fall?

Look to fall to fulfill all your wedding dreams

Spring is by far the most popular time for couples to plan to get married. Fall is often overlooked because of the common belief that a fall wedding is a brown, drab affair without real possibilities for flowers, decorations or pretty venues. But fall offers all the same amenities of the other seasons as well as some bonuses. Why plan a fall wedding? Below are some of the best reasons.

Color Choices

A fall wedding leaves color choices wide open to interpretation. Every hue from the palest lemon yellow to deep black is appropriate for a fall wedding. The natural world displays every shade of red, yellow and blue all at the same time. Think of the clear autumn sky. How about the maroons and pinks of changing leaves? Yellow is represented in the pale grasses and the brightest sunflowers. Whatever your color choices, fall has a place for them.

Ceremony Venues/Reception Sites

Gone are the triple-booked churches of spring. The three-year waiting list to reserve the country club is not a problem for the fall bride. Wedding sites and reception locations have more flexibility once the mad dash of spring and summer have passed. Couples planning for a fall wedding will find more available dates in more locations than any other time of the year. Destination weddings become less expensive with discounted rooms, off season airfares, and non-peak season prices for area attractions.

Focused Vendors

In the heart of the spring time wedding rush, wedding planners are juggling multiple weddings with multiple brides. At least one of those women is probably a Bridezilla. For the fall couple, wedding planners, dress vendors and photographers are able to focus on you two. Since the season has slowed down, dress alterations aren't backed up, bakeries are on schedule and your videographer isn't rushing you through his samples to make a 2:30 wedding downtown. The slower pace of a fall wedding lets all these professionals devote more of their time to you and your ceremony.

More Guests

Summer has become one of the busiest times of the year for families. Soccer camps, family vacations, county fairs and swimming lessons fill up a family's schedule in a hurry. Newlyweds are leaving for or returning from their honeymoons in the spring and summer. Everyone is trying to squeeze in a vacation or getaway for themselves once the weather turns warmer. For a fall wedding, guests' lives have settled back into a routine. You invitation stands alone and not in a pile with four others. Families see an opportunity for a last break before winter and spring's couples are able to attend since they aren't knee deep in their own weddings.

Honeymoon Locations

Once September 1st had passed, most children have returned to school. Feel sorry for them, and then capitalize on the elbow room you gain at area attractions and National Parks. Traffic through Yellowstone starts to move and rooms are available for the first time in months. Ocean resorts offer deals and discounts to entice people to stay in the slower fall season. Cruises fill up, but mostly with adults and retirees. Your buffet line is full of people with table manners.

Sales, Sales, Sales

Every retailer across the country runs inventory sales in the fall. Your dress vendor will need to move out the spring collection to make room for winter inventory. Simple alterations or appliques can transform a spring dress into a gorgeous fall gown for half the cost. Wedding sites offer deep discounts on decorating supplies, unity candles and guest books. The summer colors are beyond their season by the beginning of May. Fall can make use of all those spring and summer colors and designs while keeping you on budget.

Like a new marriage, fall is about transition and change. Look at this wonderful season with fresh eyes. You might see it's the perfect time to change your two lives into one.
