Design Center Power User Guide

Tips and Tricks for Best Results

Note: for basic Design Center help, please refer to our Design Center Help Section. The Design Center is still in beta, meaning that we are continually improving its ease of use and capabilities. These tips may help you get the most from our current Design Center version.

Printing:
Always print or view PDF test copies of your projects. There may be small discrepancies in the output of your text.

Positioning:
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to exactly position images and text.

Find the images you want:
Search is coming for the Design Center, but in the meantime, here are two simple tricks to make it easier to find images to use in your designs.

  1. Use the Favorites feature. By adding images to your 'favorites' (which can be seen on your MyHome page), you can then use them in the Design Center. So, find all the images you'd like to use for your project, add them to your favorites, and then start a Design Center project. Click the image button to add an image. You can now find all of your favorites in the image pop-up menu, just below your 'MyAlbum' photos.

  2. Open two browser windows or tabs - one for your Design Center project and another for your MyHome page at WeddingClipart. From your MyHome page, you can now use the in-site search bar or browse categories to find what you are looking for. When you find an image, note its "popcorn trail", which appears above the large watermarked image preview. You now know exactly what category you can find it in inside the Design Center, which you have open in your other window.

Text Tips:
Making sure your text appears correctly
  • Using the Align Commands:
Your text is more likely to line up precisely if each text box has the same alignment (or justification) chosen, such as left, center, and right. These options are available in the 'Add Text' pop-up menu.
  • Getting Text to Align in the Middle of a Design:
Make the text boxes the same size and align them to a border of your project. Then, use the arrow key to move the text boxes to the middle of your project.
  • When I Print, Parts of My Text Don't Show Up:
Make sure that the highlighted text box is large enough to show all of the text in the font you've chosen, with a little extra space.

The "Shapes" Category:
The 'Shapes' category contains basic shapes such as squares, rectangles and circles to be used as design element with your projects.

  • Creating Background Colors:
Simply select a rectangle of the color you want and resize it to cover the canvas.
  • "Activating Text" with Shapes:
Put an oval, circle or rounded rectangle of a high contrast color behind your text. This 'activates' the text box and will make people look to this part of your design more quickly. This also allows you to easily use white text any time you want.
  • Creating Borders and Lines with Rectangles:
With some simple positioning, you can create borders or bars of any solid color with rectangles. To form a border, for example, stretch one huge rectangle across the entire canvas, and then use a white rectangle to restore space in the middle. Or, stretch and position four separate rectangles of the same color around your canvas until they create a frame.
  • Using Overlapping Images to Get the Shape You Want:
Position two or more shapes of the same color to make rectangles of different sizes, along with other shapes that exactly fit your design ideas.

Screen Size:
Many of our users find it easier to work in their browser's 'full screen' mode while working in the WeddingClipart Design Center. To do so:

Login to WeddingClipart and start a new project. Once you reach the Design Center orientation screen, you're ready to "toggle" full screen mode. Do so by pressing the F11 key on your keyboard. You can return to your normal screen at any time by pressing F11 again.

Let the Design Center load in the fullscreen window -- you now have a larger space to work with!

Making the Design Center Easier to Use: We are planning better ways to find, add, and manipulate images, including rotation, unconstrained image stretching, transparency and more. We also have ideas about improving text handling, such as allowing you to use multiple fonts and faces in the same text box, and being able to give your text a shape, such as an arch.
