Fall Save the Date Card
Combine a personalized wedding monogram with fall leaves for a classy seasonal save the date card.
Coming Up with the Boxed Leaves Wedding Save the Date
I started to create this design by placing the initials of the bride and groom in a box, creating a wedding monogram. So when I thought of adding leaves to the design, I decided to incorporate the box idea into the leaf images. The result? A classy and highly personalized autumn design.

The Save the Date
I started this save the date design by putting the box with the initials of the bride and groom in the upper left and then I balanced it out with a leaf in a box image in the lower right corner. I labeled the piece with "Save the Date" at the top and put the full names of the bride and groom under it. I then filled the middle space with the wedding date and a slightly transparent leaf image to fill the background.

Personalize and Print the Fall Save the Date Card

Paper Suggestions
• 8.5" x 11"
• 30 to 60 pound card stock
• Tan, white, or beige paper
NOTE: Be sure to check with your paper supplier that your paper is inkjet-compatible (or laser-compatible if that's what you're using )

Final Invitation Dimensions: 3.5" x 4.5"

Colors Suggestions: There are many different colors you could use for this invitation because the season is filled with so many vibrant, earth-tone colors. All of the leaf images I used have multiple colors in them so you can always pull from those colors as a reference. Try using different shades of red, orange, yellow and brown. You could even throw in some blues and greens for accent colors. All of these colors would look great with the different shades intermixed or simply using shades of the same color together.

Font used: Garamond and French Script MT

Now that you've decided on this layout, its time to personalize it!
Here's what you need to do:
  1. Get the Boxed Leaves Wedding Save the Date
Members of Wedding Clipart will find the template in our Fall Templates collection once they login. It will be easy to find using the thumbnail previews. Then, simply download it to your hard drive.

  2. Open the Template
All Wedding Clipart templates are in Microsoft Word format. Double click the template and it will open automatically in MS Word.

  3. Personalize the Text
You'll see that all the text is in its own textbox, so you can edit the text and move it to where you want very easily. Try typing additional words and phrases and you'll get the hang of it immediately. You can also change the font, add bold or italicized text if you wish.

  4. OPTIONAL GRAPHICS EDITING
Swap out or edit graphics used in the template. We've designed the template layout and graphics so that they are ready to print as-is. But perhaps you've found additional images in the Wedding Clipart collection that you'd like to include. Inside the website, along with all the templates, is a complete tutorial on adding and removing images to a document in Microsoft Word. Use this as your guide. Finally, if you are familiar with image-editing programs such as Illustrator or Corel, you have complete flexibility to modify any aspect of any image, from its color to its basic lines.

  5. Test Print
Once you are happy with the way the invitation reads, try a test print on plain paper using the Manual Feed setting on your printer. We've tested all of our templates on inkjet and laser printers, so you shouldn't have any trouble printing with your standard home printer.

  6. Test Cut
As you can see from the photo, this Butterfly Wedding Theme invitation is smaller than the 8.5" x 11" paper. You will need to practice cutting away the margins and folding the invitation in thirds so that it fits in your envelopes. Best to do this before you start your final prints on expensive paper.

  7. Final Fixes and Changes
You can make as many test prints as you want, allowing you to test different wording, changes to the layout, and additions/subtractions of graphics, as mentioned above.

  8. Final Print
Select the paper you have chosen for your final invitations. Before you start a large print run, test just one sheet. If the new paper causes any alignment or paper jamming issues, you'll need to troubleshoot the printer. Most printers allow adjustments to the manual paper feed tray. When you have a successful print out, you may still need to feed and print the invitations one at a time, depending on your printer.

  9. Final Cut
Once you have a stack of final prints, you can always do the cutting at home, especially if you have a paper cutter. But you'll probably save a lot of energy and mistakes by taking the stack to your local copy store and having them cut the entire stack at once. Be sure to have a prototype of a final cut with you for them to follow.
Your Save the Dates are done!
Here is a little background on the fall leaf invitation you see in this wedding stationery set.

The Invitation
I used the same monogram with the initials of the bride and groom as I did in the Save the Date and placed it in the center at the top of the invitation. I then balanced the box with the initials in it by putting two boxed leaf images on both sides. I put the wedding date underneath the initials and a nice autumn sounding phrase underneath that. The wedding information runs down the right side and is balanced by the pair of leaves in the left lower corner.

The RSVP
The RSVP has the three main image elements used in the other pieces of the monogrammed leaves wedding set (the two boxed leaf images encompassing the boxed initials) at the top. The wedding date is centered underneath the images and the "Favor for a Reply" information is centered under that. I then made a dotted line with the information for the guest to fill out underneath the line so that they can just tear on the dotted line and send in their reply.

This is a very personal set for a fall wedding. With the bold seasonal art used, there are many paper choices that can help you get just the right look. Perfecting and printing this design should take only a couple of hours using the template. The examples you see in the photo were printed on a 2001 HP OfficeJet G85 inkjet printer.
