Fall Oak Leaf Wedding Invitation
Set the tone for your fall wedding by creating your own oak leaf invitations
The Concept for the Fall Oak Leaf Invitation
Fall is a special time of year, when summer is ending and winter is coming. Oak leaves may be one of the most familiar and beautiful reminders of this transformation. As they fall from their grand heights, they blanket our yards and walks with their subtle autumn hues. Stirred by the wind or our own footsteps, they always bring back the sense of change, beauty and the elegance.

The Invitation
For the Oak Leaf Wedding Invitation, I wanted to depict the essence of all the great fall colors. I chose an oak leaf image and made each leaf a different color (using Illustrator). This adds much more color to the invitation. I then made a thick straight line at the bottom of the invitation and added another leaf image. The wedding information runs down the left side and in the upper right corner are the names of the bride and groom. To complete the fall metaphor, I added the phrase "have fallen in love" down the right border and added a thin line that follows the phrase, leading the eye down to the rest of the invitation.

Paper Suggestions
• 8.5" x 11"
• 30 to 60 pound card stock
• Tan, white, or beige paper
NOTE: Be sure to check with your paper supplier that your paper is inkjet-compatible (or laser-compatible if that's what you're using )

Final Invitation Dimensions: 4.5" x 6" with a .25" rounded corner cut

Colors Suggestions: There are many different colors you could use for this invitation because the oak leaves present so many beautiful variations. Try using different shades of gold, orange, yellow and brown. All of these colors would look great with the different shades intermixed or simply using shades of the same color together.

Now that you've decided on this layout, its time to personalize it!
Here's what you need to do:
  1. Get the Fall's Elegance Wedding Invitation.
Members of Wedding Clipart will find the template in our Fall Templates collection once they login. It will be easy to find using the thumbnail previews. Then, simply download it to your hard drive.

  2. Open the Template
All Wedding Clipart templates are in Microsoft Word format. Double click the template and it will open automatically in MS Word.

  3. Personalize the Text
You'll see that all the text is in its own textbox, so you can edit the text and move it to where you want very easily. Try typing additional words and phrases and you'll get the hang of it immediately. You can also change the font, add bold or italicized text if you wish.

  4. OPTIONAL GRAPHICS EDITING
Swap out or edit graphics used in the template. We've designed the template layout and graphics so that they are ready to print as-is. But perhaps you've found additional images in the Wedding Clipart collection that you'd like to include. Inside the website, along with all the templates, is a complete tutorial on adding and removing images to a document in Microsoft Word. Use this as your guide. Finally, if you are familiar with image-editing programs such as Illustrator or Corel, you have complete flexibility to modify any aspect of any image, from its color to its basic lines.

  5. Test Print
Once you are happy with the way the invitation reads, try a test print on plain paper using the Manual Feed setting on your printer. We've tested all of our templates on inkjet and laser printers, so you shouldn't have any trouble printing with your standard home printer.

  6. Test Cut
As you can see from the photo, this Butterfly Wedding Theme invitation is smaller than the 8.5" x 11" paper. You will need to practice cutting away the margins and folding the invitation in thirds so that it fits in your envelopes. Best to do this before you start your final prints on expensive paper.

  7. Final Fixes and Changes
You can make as many test prints as you want, allowing you to test different wording, changes to the layout, and additions/subtractions of graphics, as mentioned above.

  8. Final Print
Select the paper you have chosen for your final invitations. Before you start a large print run, test just one sheet. If the new paper causes any alignment or paper jamming issues, you'll need to troubleshoot the printer. Most printers allow adjustments to the manual paper feed tray. When you have a successful print out, you may still need to feed and print the invitations one at a time, depending on your printer.

  9. Final Cut
Once you have a stack of final prints, you can always do the cutting at home, especially if you have a paper cutter. But you'll probably save a lot of energy and mistakes by taking the stack to your local copy store and having them cut the entire stack at once. If you want your invitations to have rounded corners, be sure to check the capabilities of the store. Ask to get the corners cut at a .25" curve. Also, be sure to have a prototype of a final cut with you for them to follow.
Your Invitations are Done!
Here is a little background on the other pieces you see in the Oak Leaf Wedding Stationery Set.

The Save the Date
For the save the date, I used the same image as I did in the invitation. However, the individual leaves are closer together and the image itself is more dominate on the piece that is on the invitation. I then spread the text out and made it look almost like a postcard arrangement. The font is the same as the invitation and it makes it look very elegant.

The RSVP
The RSVP uses the same leaf image and bottom horizontal line as the invitation. The font is kept the same and everything is kept very simple. It is a nice, clean and elegant looking RSVP.

You'll find oak leaves very versatile in putting together a fall theme wedding. They can look great on any of your printed materials, including menus and placecards. A wonderful addition would be to scatter dry, colorful oak leaves as centerpieces on your tables.

Perfecting and printing the designs described here should take only a couple of hours using the templates provided at WeddingClipart.com. The examples you see in the photo were printed on a 2001 HP OfficeJet G85 inkjet printer.
